Turkish Apricots (Prunus Armeniaca) date back thousands of years and are believed to have originated in China. In Hellenistic mythology Apricots are called the golden apples of Hesperides. Apricots are a beautiful bright orange in color with a delicate, sweet flavor. Fresh Apricots have a very short growing season and are very fragile. The dried fruit offers all of the taste of its fresh counterpart without the limited seasonality. Apricots are a great source of vitamin A, which contributes to good vision. High amounts of beta-carotene in apricots help fight heart disease.Contains sulfites. Turkish Apricots are Sun-dried.
Use: Dried Apricots are great as a snack just as they are. They’re wonderful diced and added to muffins or scones. The flavor of Apricots blends well with citrus. Try them added to your next couscous dish or in a cold chicken and lettuce salad.
Ingredients: Apricots, sulfur dioxide (to maintain color) potassium sorbate, although apricots have been pitted, they may contain the occasional pit. Contains sulfites.
Preparation: There is no preparation needed for dried fruit. If used in baking, you may want to rehydrate. To rehydrate dried fruit, pour scalding water over the fruit and let sit covered for 20 minutes. Drain well before using.
